The habitability of our planet, its biodiversity, and humanity itself are threatened by climate change. Developing a global sense of solidarity to overcome such global crises is essential. What unites humanity can be experienced in a unique way by looking at Earth from space. It shows the Earth floating in space as a blue pearl, national borders invisible. Here, all people, with their cultures and their stories, live on this bright blue dot. Recognizing the natural fascination that astronomy holds for children, the STEM-Education for Sustainable Development (STEM) program "The Blue Pearl" (BP) was developed at the LMU Faculty of Physics for children aged 6-10. Its aim is to awaken both the children's scientific thinking and their sense of global solidarity. Three modules—(1) Our wonderful blue planet Earth, (2) The Earth and its origin, (3) Climate change and climate protection—embedded in three dimensions of global learning—cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral—empower children to understand major global challenges and apply their knowledge and skills to make the world a better and more sustainable place for everyone. Finally, the view of "the blue pearl" is broadened through a creation-theological perspective, enabling students to understand the Earth as a common home (LS 3) where all people possess the same dignity.

The three-day training course provides the necessary background knowledge through expert presentations to enable participants to implement the Blue Pearl project themselves. In addition, there are several practical sessions to familiarize participants with the materials, experiments, and activities and to try them out firsthand.
